Okay, so I am beginning my quest for the best baby products on the
market and, of course, I have to start with shopping cart covers!
As a busy mom, I am constantly on the lookout for
items that will make our life easier. Battling flu season is one of my
top priorities since trips to the pediatrician are not only extremely
time consuming, but they always put a nice dent in my checkbook. When I
started hearing more and more stories about the 1 million (and counting)
germs found on shopping carts, I took notice, especially since my
babies like to "teethe" on the handles...YUCK! While it is virtually
impossible to protect our kids from everything out there, and studies
have shown that exposure to certain bacteria are good for their immune
system, the viruses that are found on grocery carts and high chairs is
too much to bear. Simply stated, they are putting their mouths where
their butts are. I decided I would have to put a barrier between them
and the carts. The battle was on!
On my quest for a shopping cart cover, I noticed that much on the market
was just plain...well, plain. Not much style and certainly not very
efficient. Many of them didn't even cover the entire seat and handle
area of the cart, which defeats the whole purpose. The covers I did like
were an outlandish price and took up to a month to ship out, being that
most of them were hand-made. By the time you add shipping to the cost,
it was more than I could spring. Having four kids, I need to be
conservative with my money....
....So back to square one. If I buy a cover in my price range I won't
want to use it, being that the design is so nauseating, and I like to
think of myself as a stylish mommy :) made the decision that I would
create a website that would offer trendy upscale covers at a fraction of
the price, with free shipping because I can't stand to pay
shipping...it irks me!
Alas, Shopping Cart Covers Boutique was born, with Itzy Ritzy as its
star. When I read the reviews on Itzy Ritzy (formerly Cuter than a
Duck's Butt) I was sold. Not only are they beautifully made in the
U.S.A. but they are actually cool. Celebrities are buzzing about Itzy
Ritzy and its easy to see why. Fun, funky, fresh patterns that are
reversible and machine washable? CHECK. Safety belts that strap around
baby and the cart? CHECK. Versatile cover that can be used on grocery
carts, double grocery carts, restaurant high chairs, park swings, and
even mall strollers? CHECK. Eco-Friendly fabric choice for the "green"
parents? CHECK. Super cute styles, luxurious fabric, and functionality,
all at a price that makes sense. My youngest girl Calla loves her Ritzy
Sitzy in Posh Safari and we get compliments on it everywhere we go. I
feel good about the protection I am offering her, and it actually has
become sort of an accessory for me too! A guitly pleasure if you
will....hee hee!
I am continuing on my journey of the quest for the best baby stuff. Of
course these are only my opinions, but after 4 kids, I am entiled to my
opinions thank you very much :)
It seems like there are more and more companies making diapers. Of
course you have the heavyweights like Huggies & Pampers...and then
there are some random brands from pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens.
Having tried them all, I can say from personal experience that cheap is
most definetely NOT better in the case of diapers! Yes, I can think of a
few things I would rather spend my money on than something that gets
peed and pooped in, but every baby needs them....
I understand the growing market for cloth diapers, and I really wish I
could say that I tried them, but I didn't. I have found the best sites
that offer cloth diapers and they can be found here. Cloth diapers are better for the
environment and less expensive, but the idea of washing poopey things
grosses me out....Which is what put me on the quest for the best
leak-proof disposable diapers out there.
After many many trials, errors, and washing endless amounts of poopey
clothes, I can say that Huggies is the winner hands down. I know there
are some Pampers devotees and I do think Pampers Swaddlers are good for
newborns. Only newborns. Once baby hits about 10 pounds, Pampers will
leak. I found Luvs to be more cost effecient and good, until baby pees
or poops. Then we have a problem :) And those other non name-brand
diapers, don't waste your money. You would be better off investing in
more expensive diapers that won't leak, instead of using up all your
good stain remover and detergent.
We have all seen the commercial where a mom is at the park with her
"baby", which is a brick. She is pushing her brick baby on the swing and
down the slide. At the end we hear "If your baby is a brick, then other
diapers would be the perfect fit." This is genius! So true because many
of the other diapers are straight. Huggies are curved and contoured to
make a better and (I believe) more comfortable fit. I am a Huggies fan
through and through, and I am pretty sure if my baby could talk, she
would tell me that she is too!
My advice is to get yourself a Sam's Club or Costco membership and it
will more than pay for itself in diapers and wipes. You can go here to
